CAP I Awards

Cleanroom Systems, Inc. and O'Brien & Gere were each awarded $125,000 as part of the NYIEQ Center's first Commercialization Assistance Program (CAP I). The grants were announced by NY State Assemblyman William Magnarelli during the First Annual Indoor and Urban Environmental Systems Symposium in Syracuse in 2001.

Proposal Evaluation:
To evaluate the proposals, the NYIEQ Center formed an independent selection panel representing a diverse background of expertise in law, technology transfer, business management and marketing, entrepreneurship, venture capital and technology.

The panelists were:

  • Ted Hagelin, Professor of Law, Syracuse University;
  • Gary Lim, Managing Director, Program in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises, Syracuse University's School of Management;
  • Dirk E. Sonneborn, Managing Partner, Exponential Business Development, a venture capital firm; and
  • Kenneth E. Torrance, Joseph C. Ford Professor, Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Cornell University.

The selection panel made their determination based on the evaluation criteria delineated in the CAP I solicitation. The selection panel carefully reviewed all 18 proposals and conducted interviews.
